Grey Area Productions is a small independent concert promotions company owned and operated by fans and volunteers whose desire is to have a vibrant and growing live music scene where we live in Pittsburgh, PA. We do our best to provide the best possible concert experience to both the fans and the artists. We started bringing national touring acts to Pittsburgh full time in 2009. In an effort to provide the best concert experience we can, we took over the management of our primary venue, The Rex Theater, at the end of 2011. Since then, The Rex has become Pittsburgh's most welcoming venue for the jam/festival scene artists and their fans , as well as the artists and fans of Funk, Soul, Rock, Bluegrass, Folk, Blues, Roots, Americana, Jazz, EDM, Comedy, Burlesque, and Indie Rock. We are proud to have the largest grass roots marketing team in Pittsburgh that is composed of over 80 dedicated live music fans. Acts that we have brought to Pittsburgh for the first time and continue to grow here each year include Greensky Bluegrass, Papadosio, Emancipator, EOTO, BoomBox, Turkuaz, Dopapod, Zach Deputy, Snarky Puppy, The Polish Ambassador, Wild Belle, Conspirator, and many more. We are also honored to have booked shows with Gregg Allman, Dr. John, Trombone Shorty & Orlenas Avenue, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Dark Star Orchestra, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Del McCoury Band, Betty Lavette, and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.
In 2016, Grey Area Productions became the exclusive talent buyer and the official promotional partner for Thrival Innovation and Music Festival. In 2015 Grey Area Productions took over talent buying and assisted with marketing the 2015 Feastival Food, Music, and Art Festival just outside of Pittsburgh in McKees Rocks, PA. Also in 2015 we are collaborating with both the Deutschtown Music Festival in Pittsburgh's Northside and the Thrival Festival in the East End. In addition to our Pittsburgh shows, we provided talent buying and grassroots marketing for a non-profit organization's family friendly music festival, the Flood City Music Festival in Johnstown, PA, which is the first weekend in August each year. We handled the booking for four consecutive years 2011-2014. Each year we strived to book a diverse line-up of music that features a little something for everyone. The 2014 festival featured acts such as Boz Scaggs, Leftover Salmon, Lee Fields, and Dumpstaphunk for the older crowd, as well as Nahko & Medicine for the People, Rubblebucket, and Hurray for the Riff Raff for the younger crowd.
